Kia Launches New UVO eServices Infotainment System

Trying to keep up in the constantly changing landscape of automotive technology, Kia launched the newest version of its UVO infotainment setup, which debuted in a 2014 Kia Sorento at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show.

New for 2013, UVO has adopted a telematics system called eServices, powered by a smartphone app. The app will power many of the systems functions, including voice-controlled navigation, vehicle diagnostics, 911 connect and enhanced roadside assistance.

The 911 feature will alert the authorities if the airbags deploy in your vehicles, while the diagnostics will automatically search the vehicle for operating problems, and will schedule an appointment online with the nearest Kia dealership and alert the owner through their phone if one is found.

The app comes at no extra cost, and will provide services like a parked vehicle locator which will direct you back to your car if you can’t find it.

When the 2014 Kia Sorento goes on sale, the UVO system will only work with iPhones, but Android phones are expected to be adopted by the second quarter of 2013.

Kia’s Batman and Aquaman inspired vehicles on Display in L.A.

Kia joined forces with DC Entertainment, West Coast Customs and RIDES Magazine to present its Batman-inspired Optima SX Limited and Aquaman-inspired Rio 5-door at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Previously unveiled at New York’s Time Warner Center, the former sports a matte and piano black paint scheme, a dramatically lowered suspension, a muscular ground effects kit, Ksport performance brakes, and custom 20” black wheels with one-of-a-kind Batman-logo centre caps. The unique front grille is shaped like a batwing, yellow LED lighting accents the vehicle, and the iconic bat signal is etched into the HID headlights.

Inside, you’ll find custom black leather and suede seats with yellow accent stitching, and even utility throwing stars installed in the centre console.

Meanwhile, the Aquaman-themed Rio hatchback is draped in special gold, green and orange for a very reptilian look. Other visual elements include Oracle LED wheel rings and body lighting across the exterior, plus 20” colour-matched Asanti wheels.

The seats have been reupholstered with green leather featuring yellow and gold accents. Elsewhere, the customized trunk enclosure, inspired by Aquaman comics, features a unique polycast cutout that creates an underwater scene lit with Oracle LED lighting.

Think you can get away with not washing your car during winter? Think again.

All that sand, slush, and ice mixed with road salt is exactly what makes your car rust. The fastest corrosion occurs when the temperature repeatedly rises above and then falls below freezing. Especially during the messy months, be sure to rinse the undercarriage and hard-to-reach areas that are susceptible to rust, such as the bumpers and inside the wheel wells. If the temperature outside is going to stay above freezing long enough for your car and driveway to dry, fill a bucket with warm water and tackle the job at home. If not, pay a visit to your local car wash and be sure they dry the car thoroughly.
